1. What are the mission and primary goals of the EBRC? 

​

Our mission is to eliminate eating disorders by improving recognition, prevention, and treatment. Our primary goals are to advance understanding of what eating disorders are, who they impact, and what factors contribute to their development and maintenance.

2. What qualities make a candidate a strong fit in the EBRC? 

​

A strong candidate has research experience in eating disorders or body image, questions they want to answer, and a desire to strengthen existing skills and learn new skills to contribute knowledge in the field. 

​

3. What opportunities are available for students to present and publish their work?

 

Students have multiple avenues to share their research:

  • National and international conferences: Students are encouraged to submit abstracts to major meetings, including the Eating Disorders Research Society annual meeting, the International Conference on Eating Disorders, and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies convention.

  • Travel support: Funding is available via multiple sources to help cover conference travel.

  • Departmental presentations: Students present annually at the FSU Department of Psychology Graduate Research Day.

  • Publication: Dr. Keel has supported students in getting first‑author publications in journals such as International Journal of Eating Disorders, Journal of Psychopathology and Clinical Science, Eating Behaviors, and Psychological Assessment.

  • Research resources: Students in the EBRC receive access to several datasets to answer research questions and receive guidance and mentorship from Dr. Keel throughout the process of writing and publishing manuscripts

 

​4. What is there to do in Tallahassee, FL? 

​

Tallahassee offers a mix of outdoor recreation, cultural events, and local experiences:

  • Year‑round outdoor activities: Tallahassee's climate makes it easy to enjoy parks, trails, and outdoor events throughout the city and surrounding region all year.

  • Festivals & live events: Outdoor concerts, seasonal festivals, and community events happen regularly.

  • FSU attractions: Student fees cover admission to many FSU sporting events. The FSU Flying High Circus and the Film School’s theater (alma mater of the Oscar‑winning director of Moonlight) are student favorites.

  • Nature & wildlife: Explore the FSU Lakefront, nearby state parks, and manatee viewing at Wakulla Springs.

  • Local food & drink: Tallahassee has a growing scene of coffee shops, restaurants with outdoor seating, and local breweries.
